    Butterfly Aviation (KGLD) is a full service FBO located on Renner Field in Goodland, KS. John and Marilyn Collett, along with the rest of the Butterfly Gang, offer a variety of services to aviators including fuel, maintenance, courtesy/rental cars and a restaurant on the field.

    The story on how it all started: John and Marilyn Collett founded Butterfly Aviation, Inc. in October, 1972.  Butterfly began as a FBO with a maintenance shop and aircraft fueling. At that time the shop dealt mostly with ag sprayers.  

    John's interest in Cessna 195's came as a young pilot when he worked for a small FBO and flew with his boss who owned Cessna 195's.  He (John) and his son rebuilt a wrecked 195 in 1974 for personal use, which they still enjoy today.  This fueled his passion for the classic Cessna and prompted him to join the International Cessna 195 Club as an active member.

 

    Today, the maintenance shop works on many different kinds of small aircraft as well as sprayers and 195's.  The shop's employees include 4 mechanics, including 1 licensed A&P and 1 certified A-I.  Butterfly also has a cafe located in the terminal building.  It has grown from a small snack bar into a hometown cafe where many locals and pilots enjoy breakfast and lunch.

    Goodland is home to many farmers that support America’s need for wheat, sunflowers, corn, pinto beans and other staples. Steve and Colleen do their best to raise each of these commodities, rotated to suit whichever order the rotation is set for the farm. Duell Farms is located north of Ruelton on approximately 4,000 acres. Steve and Colleen and their children are very active in Goodland’s community, often organizing events or holding Board positions such as President of the Fair Board, the Home-owned Carnival, Youth Hunts (a part of Pheasants Forever), Black & Gold Booster Club for the Goodland High School and Steve is also active come football season at the high school sitting at the ticket booth, collecting money. Steve is also a member of the Goodland Kiwanis club.
